Certified - Position - English as a Second Language
The purpose of this job is to teach the English language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing to the extent that the language learner will achieve success in all content areas at grade level.
Duties: 1.Screen incoming students who have a non-English-language background. Submit results to parents and cumulative record. 2.Submit required student information to the ESOL Center. a.Home Language Survey b.ESOL test score results c.Enrollment information d.Permission to attend ESOL 3.Notify ESOL Center of bus transportation needs and notify students of availability of bus. 4.Instruct English language learners (ELLs) using research-based strategies, such as Total Physical Response, Natural Language Approach, Guided and Shared Reading and Writing. 5.Collaborate with mainstream teachers of language learners with scheduling, instruction, modifications, and assessment. 6.Provide allowable accommodations on TCAP and EOC tests for language learners. 7.Administer annual English language assessment. Submit results to parents and cumulative record. 8.Monitor for two years students who exit the program (T1 and T2). 9.Submit progress reports or grades at appointed times. 10.Keep a running log on each English language learner to pass on as a profile to the mainstream teacher(s) of the following year. 11.Collaborate with special education teachers of ELLs. a.Attend A-Team and M-Team meetings of English language learners. b.Acquire an interpreter for these meetings if necessary. 12.Provide documents and required parent communication in the language of the parent to the extent practicable.
